Chennai Metro Trains starts Diwali celebrations for commuters

Colourful decorations welcomed commuters on metro trains in Chennai on Tuesday. Chennai Metro Rail Limited has decorated the swanky trains to usher in the festival season.

As many as 15 trains — each with four cars — have been decorated with stickers of colour rangoli and images of lamps on the walls and the floor as part of Diwali celebrations.
The 15 trains are operated in the two corridors – from Central Metro to St Thomas Mount and AG-DMS to Airport.

Metro rail officials said the efforts to decorate the trains were taken to go with the mood of the festival season. “We have used a high-quality 3M sticker, usually used for advertising purposes. It is also flame retardant. It took four days for us to complete decorating one train,” an official said.

“These stickers have a good life. So, we are planning to retain it as long as possible,” an official said.

CMRL released a 7.3-minute film on train maintenance. The film, in both English and Tamil languages, will be posted on CMRL’s social networking accounts.
