Vada Chennai, starring Dhanush in the lead role and helmed by director Vetrimaaran, that released last Wednesday, has set the cash registers ringing at the box office. The movie, which opened to a great start, is the first part in a trilogy.
Here is Vada Chennai’s 6-day box office collection.
In Chennai, the collection went up to Rs 82 lakh on the first day, while it collected Rs 8 crore in Tamil Nadu and around Rs 14 crore worldwide. Since the movie was released on the Durga Puja vacation week, the audience response was huge, and most of the reviewers gave positive feedback. Since the movie is certified an A and expectedly the family audience was lesser, it did not affect the box office collection.
Not only in Tamil Nadu, but also in Kerala and Karnataka, the movie is running well. On Monday, the sixth day – the movie collected Rs 28 lakh in Chennai, Rs 2.05 crore in Tamil Nadu and Rs 4.05 crore worldwide.
In total, the six-day box office collection stood at – Chennai Rs 4.08 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 35.5 crore, and Rs 58 crore globally. The film was made at a budget of about Rs 65 crore. It is still 15 days to Diwali and there are no big movie releases in Tamil Nadu, which is a good sign for Vada Chennai. Meanwhile Vada Chennai has ragged satellite & digital rights for ₹15 crores. Distributors have declared that the movie is a hit with the cast and crew already celebrating their success by cutting a cake last week.
Even on Monday Vada Chennai had good occupancy.
